Professional gemologists use a certain set of guidelines when grading diamonds. This criteria for grading a diamond is commonly known in the industry as the 4 Cs of diamonds - cut, color, clarity and carat weight. You will find each of these on virtually every diamond certificate and appraisal. The certificate is an invaluable tool in comparing, analyzing and choosing your diamond. GIA, The Gemological Institute of America, is the benchmark for issuing the most accurate certificates. While GIA grades diamonds, they don't appraise them; however, you may have your diamond appraised by an independent GIA trained Graduate Gemologist.
